How to Get Tested

Testing for sleep apnea is more convenient, affordable, and feasible than you may realize.

If you have completed a sleep study in the last year, our sleep professionals will examine the test. This option may remove testing requirements and put you one step closer to treatment.

A sleep study is necessary for a diagnosis if you haven’t been tested for sleep apnea.

If you are concerned about the administrative steps of asking for a test, don’t worry. We have partnered with a great company to provide our patients with an at-home sleep study.

The process to order the appliance is quick and simple:

  • The test is shipped directly to your home
  • The testing device is just a small ring that is worn on their finger for 2 nights
  • Once test is sent back, a medical doctor in North Carolina will analyze your results and review them with the you via a telemedicine visit

Our patients rave about how quick, simple and comfortable this process has been for them!

How to Order an At-Home Test

Our team will guide you in the right direction on where to order an at-home sleep study test.

Your insurance may even cover these at-home tests.
After completing your test, the information will be sent to NC board certified medical doctor who will review your results.

Other Testing Options

Many of our patients find that completing an at-home test is the fastest way to complete a sleep test. However, you can also discuss testing options with your healthcare provider.

Your doctor may recommend:

  • An at-home test
  • An in-lab test (polysomnography)

An overnight lab-based test will require your physician to order a sleep test. Our staff will help provide your doctor with any necessary information.

How At-Home Testing Works

At-home testing allows you to complete the sleep study in the comfort of your own home.

Your at-home sleep test monitors key indicators while you sleep. This information will be compiled for a professional to review and offer a diagnosis.

After receiving the at-home test, you will prepare to wear the device for 2 nights, while you complete your normal sleep routine.

The device is small and comfortable. It has sensors that you wear while you sleep on your finger!

This devices monitors:

  • Respiratory
  • Breathing
  • Oxygen
  • Heart rate
  • Snoring activity
  • Body position

The team of sleep professionals uses these results to diagnose sleep apnea.

Can I treat sleep apnea at Klooster Family Dentistry if I’ve already been tested for sleep apnea?

If you have a recent sleep apnea test, we can use that test and put together a diagnosis. Our team will individually review your test to ensure it is still viable. As long as it is within the last year or so and your medical profile has not changed significantly, we likely can use this test to get started on treatment.

We recognize the time and investment that goes into completing a sleep study and will only ask you to retake the test if we find it medically necessary. Contact us today to schedule your initial consultation and learn more about testing.

What Is an Oral Sleep Appliance?

An oral sleep appliance is a custom-made device that fits like a retainer in the mouth. It works by gently repositioning your lower jaw forward to open up your airway and prevent it from collapsing during sleep. This helps ensure that you get sufficient oxygen during the night and can rest peacefully without interruption.

Oral appliances are easy to wear and comfortable to use. They're small enough to fit inside your pocket or purse when not in use, so they're perfect for travelers who need their device on-the-go! Additionally, they don't make any noise while you sleep, so no one else in your bed will be disturbed by them either.

"Now I wake up refreshed, full of energy and the snoring is gone! I’m so grateful Dr. Klooster offered this service at his office, and I didn’t have to go the other route of getting a giant CPAP machine.”

"I was worried about the whole insurance process, but Klooster’s office handled everything. It was so simple, all I had to do was come in for the first consultation and then when they tested the fit. An unintended result of the oral appliance is that it kept me from grinding and clenching my teeth - I used to wake up with headaches - and since using this I’ve had no headaches in the morning. My jaws are no longer sore – I wasn’t even looking for that but I’ll take it!”
